Wylfa confirmed as home of the UK's first small modular reactors
Wylfa was confirmed as the site for the first UK SMRs, with a reported £2.5 billion public investment, three initial reactors and around 3,000 peak jobs.
Wylfa on Anglesey was confirmed as the site for the UK's first small modular reactors. Reports at the time described £2.5 billion of investment, three reactors initially with potential for up to eight, and around 3,000 peak jobs. Some reports suggested construction starting in 2026 and grid connection by 2030, although later reporting is less certain on timing.
Why it matters for contractors
Wylfa is further west than our Flintshire homes, but Little Orme View at Penrhyn Bay is on the A55 corridor, which is the main route towards Anglesey.
